ARTIST STATEMENT
I remember the first time a work of art changed my breath and captured my full attention. The beauty and technical excellence found in the micro-expressions of each brush stroke elicited a feeling of pure joy. This was when I knew I wanted to be a painter. I wanted to be an artist!
MOST PAINTINGS BEGIN WITH A CONCEPT INSPIRED BY A LIFE EXPERIENCE, AN INTRIGUING CONVERSATION OR EMOTIONAL EXPLORATION. I START WITH A SHORT MEDITATION FOLLOWED BY EXPERIMENTS ON PAPER. THESE SKETCHES ARE LESS CEREBRAL and entice a more pure creative expression. MOST DO NOT EVOLVE INTO ANYTHING OF INTEREST AS THEY ARE A WARM-UP TOOL. AH, BUT SOMETIMES A LOVELY SYNERGY OCCURS!
OCCASIONALLY, I FLUSH OUT AN INTELLECTUAL OR EMOTIONAL CONCEPT BY JOURNALING OR WRITING POETRY. MY PAINTINGS AND THE TITLES I SELECT REFLECT THAT KIND OF DEEP DIVE INTO AN EXPERIENCE, ONE I FEEL IS A SHARED VIBRATIONAL EXPERIENCE OF INHABITING A HUMAN FORM.
I WORK EXCLUSIVELY IN OILS. THEY’RE LUSH RICHNESS, VARIED TRANSPARENCIES AND TACTILE ESSENCE BECOME AN EXTENSION OF MY MIND AND BODY. ONCE THE PALETTE HAS BEEN MIXED, BASE LAYERS ARE APPLIED DIRECTLY VIA PALETTE KNIFE TO THE PAPER OR CANVAS AND THEN LOOSELY BLENDED WITH OTHER HUES INTO A GENERAL PATTERN. ADDING LAYER UPON LAYER CREATES DEPTH AND INTRIGUING DESIGN ELEMENTS. BOTH THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT AND PALETTE EVOLVE AND GROW WITH EACH LAYER, AT TIMES TAKING ON A LIFE OF THEIR OWN.
MY inner voice surfaces and drives the work when I'M aligned emotionally. And I know that something bigger than me iS producing this.

THE CONCEPT OF VIBRATION BEING THE FOUNDATION OF ALL THINGS DEFINES HOW I VIEW THE WORLD AROUND ME, AND MY DEFINITION OF LOVE AND BEAUTY. MY APPROACH REFLECTS THE INTERPRETATION OF HUMAN NATURE, ALWAYS NURTURING EVEN IN CYCLES OF DECAY OR RENEWAL, AS I DISCOVER IT, OR IT DISCOVERS ME.
